Dr. Grafton Houston graduated from the Colorado State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1989. Before graduate school he taught school – 8th grade science, 10th grade biology, and college intro biology. He has a Master’s degree from the University of New Mexico in entomology, and a BA in science with a teaching certificate from the University of Texas in Austin. The son of a geophysicist, he lived in Singapore, England, and more states than he can remember. Now he lives in Poway with his wife, son, and three rescued dogs. While not treating animals he flies around the county in small airplanes, and trains for trail and road marathons.
Dr. Laura Marie Dowd earned her doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of California in Davis, also in 1989. She did her undergraduate work at Cal Poly in San Luis Obisbo. As the daughter of a naval officer, she traveled from one side of the country to the other during her youth. Dr. Dowd knew from an early age that she was going to be a veterinarian. Animals and photography are her passions. Veterinary medicine and family life with her husband, two sons, and standard poodle take up most of her time, but she still finds time to bake elaborate cakes, run (she is also a marathon runner), and, as an Assistant Scout Master, to camp and hike with her boys.
